Driving Light Legal: Queensland Australia
Making Sure Your Auxiliary Spotlights or LED Light Bars are Legal Across Australia
You have to have perfect visibility for driving late at night. No matter which car you drive, your car should be equipped with a proper LED for clear vision.
The point is ever crucial if you are habitual in traveling in the countryside or rural areas.
Besides these, if you plan to get additional lights for your vehicle, you need to go through laws. There are laws that guide how many more lights your vehicle can have.
It is not possible to memorize each and every law, thus going through the official website is better. The same is true for Australia, as the law varies from one country to the other.
We’re kicking it off with Queensland:
Number of Lights
In Queensland, you are allowed to get a maximum of four lights. The four lights can be in the forward-facing direction. All four lights can come in a combo form.
For instance, two could be LED light bars and the other as spotlights. In case of all LED light together, one light act as single Lamp.
All LED lights come in one form and are taken as a single entity. In the case of multiple lights with single switching, it would be taken as a single lamp.
Fitting of Lights
The fitting of the lights should be in line with the pedestrian’s safety. If the lights are on the top of the bull bar, it can be dangerous for pedestrians, Fixing such lights is not possible as it could become hazardous for pedestrians.
The Queensland government makes the following mandatory for light fittings:
- On the front of the bonnet, the light should not be mounted above the bullbar
- It should also be not protruding from the front bumper or the bull bar.
In either case, it would seem as if the impact zone has been impacted. You can have the additional lights on the rooftop. These could be on the front top side of the vehicles.
Accordingly, the fitting of the lights should be in the front position. These need to be fixed on the center position in the right symmetry.
In the case of LED light, it is going to be just one light. The symmetry of one light needs to be in the center position of the vehicle. The placement of the light should not disturb the vision of the driver on the road.
Operation of Lights
The operation of the additional lights also depends upon their operations. All should be mounted such that the working of the light beam is with the main lights.
Mainly along with the high beam, the additional lights should either turn on or turn off. The working of the additional LED beams should be in line with the high beam lights.
Type of Lights
The type of additional lights for your vehicle is also specified in Queensland. As per the rules, you can only have white lights as additional lights for your vehicle.
There are different and many lights with each vendor. The lights could vary accordingly. Some are light bars, LED driving lights, as well as some specific lamps.
The type of these lamps also varies on the basis of legal fitments and their application. To get an insight into these different lights, you have to check the company’s website.
For installation purposes, you have to check the local laws in Australia. It is true that laws working in one state don’t apply in the other state. Thus, you have to be pretty alert and prudent when planning in this regard.
The light beam and its reflection should also be in line with the visibility of the driver and other cars. You need to address all aspects when getting additional beams for your cars.
The ruling mentioned above is valid since 2021 September. However, local laws can change accordingly as time goes by. You can get updated information through the official page.
