Driving Light Lenses — Is Polycarbonate a Good Choice

The light source could be of any type, but it’s vital for every driving light to have a lens. There are two major responsibilities for the lens:

To create a part of the unit’s enclosed body.

Let enough light go through it to lighten up the road in front.

Back then, glass spotlight lenses were produced. Although they had excellent optical qualities, the fragile and heavy features didn’t do well in the market.

There were chances for these lenses to break because of the debris and stones when you are on or off-road. So, modern spotlights have incorporated polycarbonate lenses.

These NV Driving lights started using polycarbonate thermoplastic. This material is used in bulletproof screens, aircraft windows, and many more applications.

Thermoplastic is temperature-resistant, which means even if the temperature is extreme. Our factory started using polycarbonate to create 250 times higher strength when compared to glass. It is also 30 times better than acrylic. Plus, it is petroleum and acid-resistant.

There are polycarbonate materials of a cheaper quality. This type may get damaged when exposed to ultraviolet light. This is why New Vision prefers using UV-protected material.

Thus, it avoids the yellowing issue that comes with age. This also has a great level of light transmission feature, so it allows around 90% of it to go through it.

The resistance level of polycarbonate is because of its flexibility. So it means, when compared to glass, the polycarbonate has a higher chance of getting scratched.

This is why you shouldn’t use abrasive materials to clean it. Instead, you can use warm soapy water and a soft cloth.

New Vision introduces replaceable filters to overcome the scratching issues seen in the spotlight lens. As these filters are made of durable material, it’s not expensive.

NV provides colored and clear filters to safeguard the main lens. It also improves your driving experience.

Clear filters can alter the spot beam light’s beam pattern. This allows wide, spot, or mix beam patterns.

Amber and Yellow filters support foggy, hazy, and dusty conditions.

The blue crystal enhances clarity and supports natural light to reduce eye strain.
