FAQ Technical Expertise
Are there any legal regulations that apply to work lights?
When it comes to regulations for work lights, there is no certain type of approval. This is because work lights are used only when driving off roads.
Who is allowed to install work lights on their vehicles?
It’s allowed on any vehicle. So anyone can have it on their vehicles.
Can I use work lights in road traffic as well?
Yes, if you are using the vehicle for the purpose of stationary (for example, for loading and unloading). There is an exception for the vehicles that are used in street cleaning, maintenance, refuse collection, and building requirements.
This applies only if the working process involves the trip. So, in this case, work lights can be used only if it’s not an annoyance for other drivers on the road.
Can other headlights also be used as work lights?
Different types of special headlights were created for vehicle lighting. It also depends on application areas such as spotlights, fog lights, dipped beams, and work lights.
The fact is that only work lights have the power to illuminate the field as required. You can characterize a good work light by its illumination and ability to cover a large surface while transitioning into the edges.
Can I switch on work lights in public traffic when it is foggy?
No, even if it’s foggy, you can’t use work lights on public roads.
When can I use a work light as a reversing spotlight?
You can use a reversing spotlight when it’s approved only with an approval mark of 00AR. There are other variants from NV, which range from Power Beam 1000 (LED), Ultra Beam, and ECO21.
What do GGVSEB and ADR stand for?
GGVSEB, formerly known as GGVS, means the Ordinance on the Carriage of Dangerous Goods on Roads, Railways, and Inland Waterways.
This executes the European Parliament and Council Directive 2008 / 68 / EC, which dates to 24th September 2008.
Also, it is on the inland transport of hazardous goods. The work lights with this approval mark are allowed to be installed for conveyance facilities, which must comply with the GGVSEB / ADR provisions.
What is the difference between the three different types of illumination?
Long-range illumination: narrow diffusion about 12-15° from left to right. Ranges from > 40 m – 150 m (this is depending on the inclination angle and installation height).
Close-range illumination: produced for the area near your vehicle ranges from 20 m to 40 m. Also, it is wide diffusion.
Terrain illumination: this is the combination of both long and close-range illumination. This could be mentioned as off-road or surrounding area illumination.
Why is the installation height of a work light important?
Installation heights have the capacity to change the light appearance. So you must consider it when installing work lights.
Can I use work lights designed to be mounted upright with suspended mounting?
You can do this if it’s mentioned in the installation instructions or the article. This is the best and only method to get guaranteed tightness and optimal illumination.
When are upright and suspended versions of a work light available?
The varieties of suspended installation are considered when the light isn’t distributed symmetrically. If you want to consider suspended installation, you must check the suitability of the headlight by reading the installation instructions or NV’s product text.
How long is the service life of a NV LED work light?
The design life depends on the work light system. Many environmental factors influence this. They are vibration, temperature, salt exposure, etc. The LED’s design life is prolonged.
But, it reduces when the temperature has a heavy impact on it. The high-powered LED from NV’s has an illumination unit of 70% natural light power. This is even after 50,000 hours of usage.
(If you consider low-power work lights like flat beam LED, it reaches this amount after 10,000 hours).
Do I need an additional relay to install an LED work light?
Protection is essential for LED devices that have higher power. Check the respective work light’s installation instructions to get clarity. Every LED product differs from one another.
Can I activate work lights at the same time as other headlights (e.g., spotlights and work lights)?
Worklights are independently operated from other lights and headlights. So you should be able to activate them.
What does ‘heavy-duty’ mean?
This means that the product can resist extreme stress. The heavy-duty work lights work beyond the extreme standard. Paired with vibration dampers or reinforced brackets to resist challenging conditions.
Why are NV LED work lights shake-proof?
As these are semiconductor components, they don’t contain fragile filaments. This is why LEDs are vibration and shock-resistant. So they offer optimal lighting under challenging conditions.
Why are all NV LED and Xenon work lights supplied with stainless steel brackets?
Generally, NV work lights use high-quality materials. The Xenon and LED work lights’ top segments are in high-quality standards.
So the stainless steel brackets used in these products prevent corrosion. Along with that, it also offers longevity to these products.
Reversing Spotlights
The lighting equipment laws in effect since July 2006. These are for newly registered trailers and commercial vehicles. The legal regulation applies for retrofitting and conversion as well.
Permission for 4 reversing headlights. 2 reversing headlights for the rear, in each case, and on the side, 1 reversing headlight. This is the optimum illumination formula when reversing.
German legislation has permitted a total of four reversing spotlights since July 2006:
At the rear, two extra reversing lights are permitted. These are for buses, trailers, and commercial vehicles that have more than 6 m in length.
- Additionally, at each side, one reversing light. These are for buses, trailers, and commercial vehicles that have more than 6 m in length.
- Worklights weren’t allowed as reversing lights.
Installing fog lamps at the vehicle’s rear was also prohibited.
For each trailer and vehicle, as a backup, 4 functional lights were given permission.
Key:
- Additional reversing light (rear end or side)
- Standard reversing light
Variant A:Two additional reversing lights at the rear.
Variant B: One additional reversing light on each side.
Variant C: Two additional reversing lights at the rear plus an additional reversing light at the side.
