What Is Prop 65

Pro 65 or proposition 65 is an act of 1986. It is about Toxic enforcement and safe drinking water under Californian law.

The law is regarding the right to know. When any substance of Pro 65 is above the threshold level, the public has a right to know.

OEHHA looks after Pro 65 and another listing of around 900 substances. OEHHA is all about The California Office of Environment Health Hazard Assessment. The list is also constantly updated.

For any product, the listing of Pro 65 includes:

In case the products are being sold within the vicinity of the Californian state
Within list 3 of Pro 65, it contains as many as 900 substances

The law should not be taken as a standard procedure for safety because it is unique to California state. It is believed that none other than California in the US has such simpler law.

In the case of warning in Pro 65, it doesn’t mean that the product violates the safety laws.

Type of Substance on Pro 65 list

The list of Pro 65 contains a broad range of substances. There could be human-made substances as well as other naturally occurring ones.

It should be made sure that the product need not be included in the list of Pro 65. It should not be made an excuse for causing any warning to the Pro 65 listing.
